There is a slew of new today starting with us taking a 2 hour nap (that turned into 3) Wednesday night at midnight. We had to wake up early to drive to Pittsburgh International Airport to catch our Southwest flight to Midway in Chicago.
I've never flown on Southwest before and as far as I can tell, they are a good airline to fly on. The seats were nice, roomier than Continental, and the flight crew were nice and funny. The sun was rising when we took off at 6:30.
Beautiful. Because of the clouds, the sky looked like we were flying over little bunnies.
Here is our breakfast of champions. I know it was 6 am and our flight was only an hour, but we were already up for almost 6 hours and we needed to take the edge off. Off of what, I don't know, but I hate taking off and this helped.
We landed in Midway (not O'Hare) and it was freezing, around 28 degrees I think, and this plane was getting de-iced. Luckily, we did not have the same fate 2 hours later.
Southwest's waiting area is nice and they have the comfy leather chairs. Here is my being sleepy.
We stopped to get something to eat - It was about 8 o'clock EST. I had an egg bagel with cheese. Very good.
Here is Troy trying to get a wireless signal. This is the only airport that we have been in that didn't have free wireless.
The carpet in Midway. I'm starting a collection.
On the second flight to Oakland, we didn't get a meal - because they don't do those kind of things on budget air flights any longer - they served this little boxes of junk food including Chips Ahoy 100 calorie packs. They were ok and better than eating the regular kind I guess.
We rented a car, I think we got the cheapest which was a focus or something similar, and they gave us this Impala. It has a lot of power and reminds me of the Cutlass. It's fancy.
Troy and I drove to John's work, VGKids, around noon and he took us to the Taco/Burrito truck around the corner. Here's John.
Here is Troy.
Here is my burrito. As big as your head.
You get this little bag of carrots and radishes soaked in jalapeno juice. I've never had a radish before and I must say I was right - not great.
After work we picked up some beer. They have this beer that is made in the Poconos. I think it tastes remarkable similar Celis Raspberry, except this is only 5 bucks.
Later that night we went to a Thai place in on Piedmont. I don't remember what this was called, but it's chicken in spicy coconut sauce.
So! That was day One. We were up for about 38 hours maybe. I think we got enough new stuff done to last a week. I should bank some of these new things - if only I could.
