Wednesday, March 12, 2008: Cali Day 7
Last day in the Bay Area!
We headed out to the airport around 6:30. Not to bad of a start time considering on the way out we were awake all night.
We at at the terminal and people watched the security checkpoint. It was really kind of interesting.
When I say that the takeoffs and landings at Oakland are scary, this may help your imagination. Here is how close you are to the bay when you takeoff. It is the same in reverse.
The whole of the bay.
It was very turbulent and cloudy. Some of the trip was rocky.
We landed in Chicago and had some time to get lunch. Here is my lunch buddy. It's Troy's vest with our pillows in it. We had some nice conversation.
We ate a Potbelly's. I wouldn't recommend it. My sandwich didn't taste like anything. Not good or bad - just nothing.
Here is Chicago.
We flew over Lake Michigan for quite a while. It did not thrill me. I shut the blind. I don't really need to see this to imagine my doom.
But it was rather neat to see in person. I've never seen a lake that big frozen.
Sunset in Pittsburgh. The last leg of our flight was about 55 minutes. That was great because we were tired and had another 3 hours on the road to get home.
I do love that our trip began with a sunrise and ended with a sunset. It's poetic if you dig that kind of thing. And beautiful as well.
Here is the Pittsburgh carpet. Not that great actually.
My least favorite.
And that was the end. We got home and went directly to bed and crashed immediately.
Our trip was great. We almost didn't come back and I can see why people stay. But I'm glad to be home.
