Sunday, April 13, 2008: The State Theatre: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Tonight we went to see one of my favorite mope bands to listen to on repeat: BMRC. But first… let talk about the rocking mac and cheese I ordered from The Diner. It was my first time there to eat (although I am a sucker for their stickies).
This was before I dosed it with hot sauce. I ate the whole damn bowl. Sometimes my belly is a bottomless pit.
This is also the first time that I have been to The State Theatre. It reminds me of the Williamsport Community Theatre, only much smaller - probably by a third. Troy got really great tickets and we were only about 4 or five rows back. In hindsight, this might not have been so awesome.
The Duke Spirit opened up for BMRC. I thought that they sounded great live. Something like Blondie if they were from England and not into disco. I bought there CD on the way out, and even though I like it - it doesn't rock as hard or loud.
I am told that she is hot. She may be. She is definitely a great singer.
During the break, we talked and talked and talked. I fought off the urge to hit the concession stand for a Whatchamackalit. It took forever for Black Rebel to come out. Also, the guy in back of Mark really wanted his picture taken.
Finally… they came out. I was expecting some nice mood lighting like this:
Instead it looked like this:
When you put them all together, this is what most of the night looked like.
Seriously. Those are two pictures that I took in succession. They had no less than 5 strobe lights and we were so close it hurt. It was funny to see dudes rocking out with their eyes closed and people holding onto the seat in front of them for fear of falling over. I gave Troy instructions of how to hold me down in case of seizure.
Ah! Flashbacks. It hurts so bad.
I did get some nice shots thanks to our proximity.
This guy is at it again.
BMRC was great. They sounded great and were very apologetic to the crowd for the longish wait. As far as venue goes, the State Theatre isn't so bad a joint to catch a show. It's nice not to get burned with a cigarette nor get bumped by some chick that needs to go the the bathroom/bar/whatever a thousand times. The energy was cool and they certainly did a great job on renovations.
And they have this poster of Cary Grant. Well, hello.
The lines for the merch table. The merch table guy had a great system that allowed for me to jump in line and not have to wait as long as some of the suckers.
I'm out!
