Hello and goodbye Thanksgiving! It came on so fast this year. How has this year been for you? Fast? Slow? The best? The worst?
It's a little early for me to get weepy and and sentimental about the year gone by, especially since it has yet to go by.
But in the spirit of Pilgrims and sweet potatoes, I'll go on a little about what I'm thankful for: my life, the lives of my families and friends (especially those you got to meet through this blog), these kick ass little critters living with us, and especially for all the opportunities that I've had this year.
Forget all the big experiences… even the little choices like going right instead of left, and picking chicken over beef… little dumb everyday things have improved the quality of my life immensely. I don't write about everyday things, like driving home a different way or parking at a different entrance at the mall, but they do make a difference. I know you shouldn't sweat the small stuff, but most of life is made of just that. Seconds and minutes - that is what I've been changing.
Wednesday, 11/21/07: My Kitchen: Goat's Milk
My sister came to visit on Tuesday because she totally kicked ass in school and wanted to get out of town to celebrate a little. On Tuesday night, we watched Ninja Warrior on the G4 network, which is another new show I watched this year.
Ninja Warrior is another Japanese import, something like MXC, but better because the stages and tasks are very hard and concentrate on skills like balance, strength and agility. I couldn't do the spider crawl and I'm betting that you can't either.
In the morning, after Troy went to work Tre hung around for a while I worked. It was the day before Thanksgiving break, so I did my best to concentrate and get some work out the door, but when Tre is around it's hard not the screw around.
This time we took a break to try some goat's milk. I bought it a couple of days earlier with Troy on a whim.
It smelled a little nutty and the consistency was very thick, much more thick whole cow's milk.
Tre tried it first and then I did. We both liked it, but we agreed that it was a little too thick to drink everyday, then again we are skim milk girls.
Thursday, 11/22/04: Cracker Barrel: Thanksgiving
Last year my Pop pop freaked out about cooking dinner and cleaning up for Thanksgiving, even though he did neither, so this year we decided to go out for dinner. The options were Cracker Barrel or The Dutch Kitchen and Tre and I picked the Cracker Barrel, if only because it sucks less. Also new: Nick came with us and ordered something bloody while we all stuck to Turkey and stuff.
Here is me and my Pop pop. We got into an argument over whether or not sweet potatoes and yams are the same thing. I said Alton Brown said yes, and Pop Pop said, "Well, that's ok, but there not." He totally called Alton out as a liar and that's why I love my pop pop. It was a good day.
Friday, 11/23/07: Black Friday shopping.
This year I went Black Friday shopping by myself. I probably would not have gone if I didn't sleep with Edie all night. She woke me up at 5:30 and I just went for it. I was completely beat, but there were a couple of things that I needed to pick up.
Here is a picture of the view from the mall when I was leaving to go home.
Later that day, Tre and I went to a new store called "Steve & Barry's." If H&M was equal to the Gap, Steve & Barry's would be Old Navy. They do have some big name celebrity designers (Sarah Jessica Parker and Venus Williams being two), and their clothes are both really cheap and good looking.
I bought a pair of jeans for $9.99! They are much better looking than the jeans we spent all morning trying on at Old Navy (they give you a man crotch if you bend down) and they fit better. I wore my jeans for 3 days in a row and they didn't get stretched out in the ass like Gap jeans. Also, I bought Troy this completely kick ass Peacoat for $10.
After all that - we came back home to the fonte. It was a great vacation, it lasted for ever but went by like that! I finally got a good night sleep after sleeping with Edie for 4 straight nights and getting kicked and pushed out of bed. Christmas will be soon and I look forward to the insomnia that will come with Edie again.
